Sepsis Management in Children

In 2016 a multidisciplinary task force of 51 specialists in pediatric critical care working as part of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, was assigned to formulate guidelines in children with sepsis and septic shock. The intent was to provide an approach to “best practice” and not to provide a defined standard of care. Clinical judgement remains the maintstay of any final patient decision.

This represents the first consensus conference of these recommendations. The intent of these guidelines are for children from 37 weeks gestation to 18 years.

The panel issues 77 statements on management and resuscitation of sepsis in children.

The following table is a synopsis of the Task Force’s report. Please refer to the full publication for full details. (Pediatr Crit Care Med. 2020 Feb;21(2):e52-e106. doi: 10.1097/PCC.0000000000002198.)
